Biggest direct access win proves barristers “can cut out solicitors”
Thursday, 9 June 2016The chief executive of a pioneering set of direct access chambers has said victory in a group action at the Court of Appeal proves barristers can “cut out the intermediaries”. Carla Morris-Papps said direct access had meant “massive savings” for over 200 clients because the case had not gone through solicitors.

Property management firm turns itself into ABS
Tuesday, 15 March 2016A property management firm specialising in residential blocks of flats has turned itself into an alternative business structure, in what is understood to be first move of its kind. “At the moment we’re a property management company with a legal capacity. In 10 years’ time, it is likely to be the other way round,” said director Matthew Young.

High Court judge castigates senior property partner “who cut corners all the time”
Monday, 30 November 2015A High Court judge has launched an extraordinary attack on a senior property partner, saying that although he was “on the whole” an honest witness, he “plainly cut corners all the time in his practice”. Mrs Justice Proudman said Michael Parker regarded himself as a “man of commerce”.

‘DIY law’ entrepreneur relaunches landlord website
Tuesday, 30 September 2014Legal entrepreneur Brad Askew has relaunched a property website for landlords, which attracts up to 600,000 unique visits a year. The Tenancy Agreement Service is aimed particularly at the 78% of Britain’s 3.5m private landlords who only let one property.
