Consumer debt forecast “likely to favour law firms” but smaller practices could lose out
Wednesday, 12 July 2017Smaller law firms specialising in insolvency work will be hit with a double whammy as Brexit favours big firms that can keep debt recovery costs down, while an Online Court will make it easier for litigants in person to pursue claims, a report has predicted. But the overall picture for law firms handling insolvency work was bright, it said.

High Court backs SRA over bankruptcy costs claim
Monday, 8 June 2015The High Court has backed the Solicitors Regulation Authority in denying a trustee in bankruptcy the right to deduct his costs from client funds held by a solicitors’ practice after the principals were made bankrupt.

SRA cedes handling of insolvency complaints

Firm claims RTA portal “breakthrough” as insolvency cases granted stay of LASPO execution
Friday, 25 May 2012Liverpool costs specialists yesterday claimed a “massive breakthrough” in a dispute about the recovery of ATE insurance in RTA portal cases that has seen thousands of cases stayed. The news came as the government announced a two-year moratorium on ending recoverability in insolvency cases.

Insolvency Service gives SRA a taste of its own medicine

Third edition of SRA Handbook in seven months goes live
Monday, 30 April 2012The third edition of the SRA Handbook in just seven months has gone live after being approved by the Legal Services Board. A fourth edition in less than a year since the Handbook went live on 6 October 2011 should be necessary in June.
