Law Society goes to war on SRA code of conduct reform
Friday, 9 September 2016The Law Society has issued a damning critique of the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s proposals for a streamlined code of conduct and – to a lesser extent – its planned overhaul of the accounts rules. The code of conduct proposals were misconceived, unnecessary, unclear, and would create a two-tier profession, it said.

SRA warns in-house solicitors of disciplinary action over debt collection letters

BSB sets course for barrister partnerships in 2013 and ABSs in 2014
Monday, 22 October 2012Barristers are likely to be allowed to form partnerships next year and before they can create alternative business structures, the Bar Standards Board said last week. Meanwhile, it dropped a proposal to force barristers to withdraw from cases where a client refuses to reveal previous convictions to the court.

SRA mulls dropping requirement on solicitors to refer clients to IFAs
Tuesday, 3 July 2012The Solicitors Regulation Authority is set to recommend dropping the controversial ban on practitioners referring clients to tied financial advisers. Solicitors would instead have to ensure that the client is involved in the decision-making process that goes into any referral.
