Law firm launches data analytics team to help lawyers predict the future
Wednesday, 7 June 2017Insurance law firm BLM has set up a specialist data analytics team to help its lawyers make better predictions about their cases. Headed by a solicitor and a data scientist, it uses machine learning, a form of artificial intelligence (AI), to predict the length, cost and result of litigation.

Neuberger urges debate over ethical implications of artificial intelligence
Monday, 20 June 2016The president of the Supreme Court last week called for a debate on the ethical implications of artificial intelligence and for “greater prominence” for ethics in legal training. Lord Neuberger also warned once again of increased potential for ethical conflicts in alternative business structures owned by non-lawyers.

Denton’s IT accelerator looks short and long term with Apperio investment and ROSS expansion

Meanwhile, another of its investments, AI venture Ross, is opening up to more law firms.

Watson-based app heralds ordinary speech legal searches
Tuesday, 17 February 2015Would-be lawyers have designed an app that they claim is the first “artificially intelligent attorney”, able to conduct legal searches in answer to natural language queries, based on IBM’s cognitive computer, Watson.
