Law firms that fail to change “no longer sustainable” after 2020, report predicts
Thursday, 17 March 2016Law firms that fail to prepare for change are likely to become “no longer sustainable” beyond a “tipping point” around the year 2020, a report by accountants Deloitte has predicted. It said fewer “traditional lawyers” would be needed in the future, but there would be more sales executives, project managers and technology experts.

Property management firm turns itself into ABS
Tuesday, 15 March 2016A property management firm specialising in residential blocks of flats has turned itself into an alternative business structure, in what is understood to be first move of its kind. “At the moment we’re a property management company with a legal capacity. In 10 years’ time, it is likely to be the other way round,” said director Matthew Young.

South-west firm to become pioneering employee ownership ABS
Monday, 7 March 2016South west law firm Stephens Scown is to become a pioneering alternative business structure at the end of his month, which will allow it to remain a partnership while introducing employee ownership. Managing partner Robert Camp he hoped it would provide a “way forward” for other law firms.

ABS for nurses to focus on personal injury

Local government lawyers get advice from QC in dispute with SRA
Friday, 19 February 2016Local government lawyers have obtained a QC’s opinion in a dispute with the Solicitors Regulation Authority over their ability to provide reserved legal activities to external bodies and individuals, it has emerged. The move follows complaints that the SRA was forcing councils to set up ABSs.

Knights targets non-lawyer professionals in next stage of growth

Fairpoint looks for new firms to buy as it achieves “double-digit growth”

Case-tracking app will enable us to become biggest conveyancers, new ABS says
