Report highlights perception gap between partners and fee-earners
Tuesday, 22 March 2016There is a big gap in the way partners and fee-earners at medium-sized law firms view where they work, including “an exaggerated sense of progressiveness among decision-makers”, a new report has found. Partners were far more confident than fee-earners that their firm had a “clear strategy for the future”.

Law firms that fail to change “no longer sustainable” after 2020, report predicts
Thursday, 17 March 2016Law firms that fail to prepare for change are likely to become “no longer sustainable” beyond a “tipping point” around the year 2020, a report by accountants Deloitte has predicted. It said fewer “traditional lawyers” would be needed in the future, but there would be more sales executives, project managers and technology experts.

Solicitor launches contract lawyer and paralegal matching service
Wednesday, 16 March 2016A City solicitor who qualified at Ashurst has set up a contract lawyer and paralegal matching service designed particularly for firms needing help with e-discovery. Toby Gascoyne said the web platform was currently working with three law firms and around 100 lawyers and paralegals.

Controversial miners’ compensation firm goes into administration

Pioneering legal tech company launches mobile app
Friday, 4 March 2016Pekama, a legal tech company with investment from law firm Taylor Vinters, has launched a mobile app which it believes will trigger a “big change” in the way lawyers communicate. Zeev Fisher, the chief executive of Pekama and a solicitor, said the app had been tested by three law firms.

Knights targets non-lawyer professionals in next stage of growth
Wednesday, 3 February 2016Knights, the law firm backed by leading businessman James Caan, is targeting accountants, tax specialists and town planners as part of a plan to recruit a 100 more professionals this year. Chief executive David Beech said he expected around half of the new recruits to be non-lawyers.

Law firm to back clients’ litigation after £50m deal with hedge fund
Monday, 1 February 2016Cardiff-based Capital Law has today launched a £50m fund – backed by a hedge fund – to help its clients pursue litigation, in a first for a law firm. Senior partner Chris Nott said the fund had already helped a small business sue a government department for £1m and another client bring a professional negligence claim against one of the big four accountants.

PI firm blames Autumn Statement as it suspends construction of “iconic” £8m building
