Help firms switch regulator by scrapping run-off rules, CILEx Regulation tells LSB
Tuesday, 1 December 2015Law firms that switch regulator should not be forced to buy six years of run-off insurance cover, CILEx Regulation has argued in a report for the Legal Services Board. It said that only firms which were actually closing should have to buy run-off cover.

Separate representation in conveyancing “should be the norm”, Zurich says
Wednesday, 14 October 2015Separate representation for lenders and borrowers in conveyancing transactions “should be the norm”, a senior manager at insurer Zurich has said. Michael Blüthner Speight described the increased cost would be “minimal”.

SRA hits back after Law Society attack on indemnity reforms
Thursday, 10 September 2015Paul Philip, chief executive of the Solicitors Regulation Authority, has hit back after the SRA’s latest indemnity insurance plans were fiercely criticised by the Law Society. He said the regulator had made “absolutely no new recommendations”.

Slow off the blocks? BSB regulates fewer firms than expected as ABS launch date slips further
Tuesday, 4 August 2015The Bar Standards Board (BSB), which predicted at one point last year that it would authorise 400 firms in 2015, has authorised only 32 in its first four months as an entity regulator, it has emerged. Meanwhile it may not be regulating alternative business structures until later next year.

Hugh James extends law firm network

Big fall in firms heading for closure after failing to find indemnity insurance
Tuesday, 20 January 2015A total of 49 firms are heading for closure after failing to secure indemnity insurance, the Solicitors Regulation Authority has said. This compares with 138 which were forced to shut for the same reason last year.

SRA rejects Law Society bid to extend indemnity run-off period by three years

First sanction for firm that failed to close after extended indemnity period
